The Soten School had been founded by Soheishi Nyudo in Hikone (Goshu) during XVII century. The most famous and frequent subjects for their tsubas, when this style become fashionable, were Japanese battles between Taira e Minamoto (Gen-Pei). Earlier pieces are very well carved and defined and can be executed in shakudo, whereas later imitations are always in iron and quickly rendered.
